Adult Sunday Schools: We have 4 Adult Sunday School Classes: Open Door Class located in room 218 Branches Class located in room 219 LIFE Class located in room 228 Young Adult Class located in the Library (9:30 - 10:30) United Methodist Women (UMW) Our purpose is to be a community of women that follow Jesus Christ. The UMW meets the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm. at the church.
Mary Martha Circle Meets 2nd Monday of the month at 10:00 A.M. at the church for a program, devotion, refreshments and fellowship.
Needles and Pins Meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday at 9:30 A.M. at the church. The women make quilts for the StewPot.
“Stitching for Thine” Prayer Shawl Ministry Some industrious women in our church serve in the prayer shawl ministry. They knit or crochet shawls. Each first Sunday of the month there is the prayer shawl table. These shawls are blessed and prayed for. Please feel free to bless the shawls and sign the cards that accompany them. Should you know of someone you want to bless (sickness, depression, loss etc.) please take one. They can even be shared for joy! The Deep Woods Literary Society (Book Club) This group meets on the 2nd Saturday of each month at different individual homes. Each month they meet to discuss a book that they have read for the month.
Altar Guild Meets as needed. These women are entrusted with the ministry of preparing the chancel and it's furnishings for corporate worship. Special interests are communion, flowers and banners.
Stitch-A-Bit A sewing group that meets on the 4th Thursday of each month in the Open Door classroom from 9:00 am. to 3:00 pm. The group meets for fellowship to share ideas and techniques of quilting. Sewing is done and it is a great time to complete unfinished projects. Our emphasis is placed on prayer needs and the church universal.
Lunch Bunch Here at The Woods on Thursdays at 11:30 am. At this hour, we eat and fellowship - then the FARKLE games begin. There is no exchange of money, just bragging rights.
Crisis Relief Ministries (CRM) Crisis Response Ministry's mission is taken from 2nd Corinthians 1:4, “Comfort others with the comfort you have received. " CRM’s guiding philosophy is ministering to people out of compassion and provide a genuine demonstration of God's love and mercy. Crisis Response Ministry deploys crisis trained Christian volunteers. The organization is developing partnerships with law enforcement, fire departments, offices of emergency management, Department of Homeland Security and other agencies. Grand Prairie Food and Clothing Co-Op We as a church collect food items in support of the Grand Prairie Food and Clothing Co-Op. We have collection boxes in the Commons area for you to put your items in. We are one of the largest supporters of the Co-Op in the Grand Prairie area.
Welcome Center Welcome Center Assistants help at the Welcome Center in the Commons Area before and after each service with any questions that people may have. Greeters Welcome all people coming in to the church on Sunday mornings at the main entrance doors. The greeters are there before and after each service. You can sign up for either the 8:30 am. or the 11:00 am. service at the welcome center.
Communion Assistants Communion Assistants help on the first Sunday of the month with the service of Holy Communion. You can sign up for either the 8:30 am. or the 11:00 am. service at the welcome center.
Men’s Bible Study Men from three United Methodist churches meet on Saturday mornings to discuss the Bible. It is open to all men looking to learn more about the Bible and Christianity. We meet on the lower level every Saturday from 8:00 - 9:00 am.
Small Group Bible Study Every Wednesday at 11:00 am. and 6:00 pm. an exciting Bible study is offered. In addition, it offers an opportunity to be in a community and engage with other Christians. You will leave refreshed, revived and have more clarity of purpose for your Christian journey.
The Woods UMC “Blessing Box” “Bring what you can or take what you need. Above all BE BLESSED!” We have a new outreach project for our community. Lending a helping hand to those who are in need—the homeless or struggling families. At the end of the main parking lot is where our box is located. Donations to the Blessing Box are happily accepted in the main office. Supplies that can be donated are baby needs, canned foods to peanut butter, jelly, ramen noodles, toiletries, socks or laundry soap and Kleenex. It is open 24 hours a day—seven days a week. This outreach helps when the Grand Prairie Food and Clothing Co-op us closed.
